great, watch digital TV, by appointment, in an analog, linear fashion. It's 1970 all over again. Just be sure to pay your bill.
Call me when Silicon Dust or someone integrates this into a DVR system.

DVR/on demand features will be included in the service, as per the article:adam1991 wrote:great, watch digital TV, by appointment, in an analog, linear fashion. It's 1970 all over again. Just be sure to pay your bill.

Available later this year, the Xfinity TV Partner app will provide Samsung Smart TV customers with access to Xfinity’s Emmy Award-winning guide and live and on demand programming, including local broadcast, cable and Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) channels, as well as their cloud DVR recordings.

What's the difference between on-demand programming and cloud dvr from the cableco?
Nothing, really.
Cloud DVR "recordings" are like Kindle books or the IOT--controlled by the big corporation, not by you personally. You own nothing, and are apt to go use this "stuff" that they control only to find out it's no longer available to you because Big Corp said so.
On the other hand, THIS is interesting:

But I digress.

On demand titles expire when the streaming provider's licence to air them/host them are up. Your cloud DVR recordings stay until you delete them.
PlayOn uses a browser to capture, thus is subject to the (often) limited resolution/audio formats available to the browser as determined by the streaming provider, which is usually inferior to the resolution/audio formats available in the service's native app.

If you believe that the cableco cannot/will not delete them or otherwise deny you access to them depending on the whim of the cableco, I have a bridge to sell you.Ed wrote:On demand titles expire when the streaming provider's licence to air them/host them are up. Got evidence of that? Or is it just more ignorant fear mongering ramblings (you seem to do a lot of that)?

Really?
What's wrong with you?
Got evidence of these "ignorant fear mongering ramblings" to which you refer?

Didn't even read the article, just started spewing stuff to be critical and all 'IAMSOVERYSMART' - which was then proven wrong by what's in the article.adam1991 wrote:great, watch digital TV, by appointment, in an analog, linear fashion. It's 1970 all over again. Just be sure to pay your bill.

Again, didn't even know what the product you were criticizing was (which can be uncovered by a quick Google search/visiting Comcast's site). But that doesn't stop you. That's the definition of ignorance. And that's just in this thread alone.adam1991 wrote:What's the difference between on-demand programming and cloud dvr from the cableco?

The point, which went entirely over your head, was that the cableco is in control of the recordings--not you.
Ignorance? Hardly. I know exactly what the facts are--but you have some sort of problem having them revealed to you.
