$15/month subscription or a non-transferable lifetime subscription? No thanks.

And which lifetime are we talking about? My lifetime? Lifetime the company or the life of the hardware? My brain is in gear and I will come up with something. However until I do there will be no Win10 upgrades on anything in the house.

Lifetime of the unit. I recently tested a Roamio and mini and have to say the TV PQ wasn't up to snuff. Menu and streaming were excellent but anything cable TV looked bad on both as though they had inherent interlacing problems.

Not to mention that TiVO disbanded the engineering group that designed these boxes. TiVO knows something that Microsoft knew when they disbanded WMC team.

Life of the hardware. And it IS transferable. I've bought/sold several used Tivos with lifetime in the past and never had a problem transferring the subscription on any of them. Unless something better comes along, I'll probably end up with Tivo again when WMC goes away, hopefully not anytime soon.

I don't understand why everyone is worrying about this now. Nothing has really changed. A new OS that doesn't have WMC has been released. But that has no effect on working Win 7 and 8.1 systems. I acknowledge that the Rovi switch has been bumpy, but is working fine for the most part for most people. Microsoft could have easily dropped guide support altogether, but they didn't. Even if they did, 3rd party solutions work fine.

Adam, here's a Tivo reference for you:

Because people don't like to remain stagnant, when the entire world/ecosystem is obviously changing/adapting around them

HTPCs should be regarded as appliances. My 15 year old refrigerator still works fine, as does my A/C, washer/dryer, TV, etc. If it ain't broke, which it ain't, then ...

Want to upgrade your home computer or laptop? Knock yourself out. But if you want to keep using your free DVR indefinitely, don't upgrade. Simple as that.

For you. For me it's a toy to be chucked when a better toy comes along.

Yes, but did GE come in and say, "Oh, sorry, as of September 15 your spin cycle will no longer work . . ."

;)

I don't mind things staying stagnant, I do mind losing features that I've developed a system around.
