Star Wars on BLU-RAY.. Yup.. Worth the Wait.

#1

Post by newfiend » Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:55 am

So ever since Blu-Ray came out I have been wanting this.. As you can probably tell by my Avatar I am an avid Star Wars (Nut, Geek, Fan) .. I can't help it.. I grew up in that era..Had the toys (still do) and I just grew up watching and enjoying the films for years.
I am not a huge Prequel Trilogy fan, But I am glad Lucas did go back and fill in the blanks and at least explain how the Origanl Trilogy came to be.
Well.. when Lucasfilm decided to release this set on Blu-Ray I was first excited then panic striken as the DVD (2004) release had lots of visual and audio errors. Well after reading this article I am VERY happy to see that a lot of the Video and Audio errors are now fixed!
Hit the link here http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/ ... eview.html to read about the improvements in audio and video to all 6 Star Wars Films.
I will deffinately be purchasing the Full set.. best price I can find so far is at Amazon.com
Check out the link and let me know your thoughts..

But, but, but why aren't the original 3 on there in their original form?? Personally I couldnt care less about the prequels...episode 1 redefines the words crap and bore-fest IMHO but everyone to their own.

Like you I was born and raised on the original ones in the late 70's and they are the versions I want to see. Oh well beggars can't be choosers and I'll still buy the set! :D

.... or maybe we should all just wait for the Star Wars 3D Blu-ray edition? I think they are planning for a theatrical release soon.

No offense, but I think this whole 3D push is complete crap. I wish TV manufacturers would stop spending money on stupid things like 3D and internet applications and put that money back into the picture quality.

To me, the 3D TV push is about the same as putting nice leather seats into an old beat up car that barely runs.

Meh, I'm sort of with you. It's a great wow factor, but soon wore off for me. I've watched a few movies in 3D at a mates house. Headache anyone?
After saying all that, I'm sure my next TV purchase will be one that has 3D lol....

I agree the 3d stuff is gimmicky/lame but the internet apps, total win.

Yeah I agree I don't care for a lot of the "upgrades" Lucas implemented to the OT. I was just glad to see a lot of the visual annoyances fixed. As far as the PT goes I liked episode 3 the best. The others...meh not so much. Still want the entire set for the extras disks with all the deleted scenes and extras you can only get with this set. Its still going to look awesome in 1080p though! You can buy just the PT or OT sets by themselves but you won't get the 3 extra disks, but its an option for those who just want one or the other. Episode 1 is coming out next year in 3D.. I like the 3D TV's but wouldn't waste extra money to buy one. I'm content with my HD set the way it is. I did read earlier today that the god awful puppet used in Episode One has been replaced by a CGI model on the Blu-Ray set. Now if they could have only erased Jar-Jar it could almost be ok...lol
@ richard1980.. And yes turd polish goes a long way .. I can vouch for this as I manage a store that does auto detailing.. You can not imagine the amount of polish I have applied to "Turds" yet they still come out shiny..lol

I'm also looking forward to buying the complete set mainly for the extras discs. I already had HD copies of the star wars movies in mkv. I assume the source was from HD cable TV. I also still have my original DVDs which I bought last time around.
I prefer the original trilogy but like attack of the clones and revenge of the sith, not so keen on ep1 with jar jar his voice is just so annoying and a big mistake by Lucas IMHO.

Does the Bluray original trilogy have the re-mastered 1997 version where Gredo shoots first in the bar scene: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_shot_first

and the scene where Jabba talks to Han Solo next to the Millenium Falcon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nbE8Lyi0M8

I hope both are removed and returned to the original 1977 version. I sometimes wonder if George Lucas fluked the original Star Wars when I consider these two scenes.
