WEC Layout Changes

#1

Post by Scallica » Thu Aug 04, 2011 1:52 am

For those that peruse the WEC, they implemented some layout changes:

--The activity section is now on the bottom of the page
--The user info for each post is now on the top of the post instead of the side
--The old TGB logo is on the top of the page

I wish they would remove that sidebar on the right!

Wow, quite a few changes...for the better I think. At least they are trying.

It's a step in the right direction- at least the widths are more tolerable and they are trying some more branding. But there is still some wasted space, not sure if I understand the placement of TheGreenButton text, the main page takes about 7 seconds to load (TGB.tv=<1sec), and it looks absolutely terrible now in Chrome.

It looks also cack in FF5 - the (re)developer must've been using IE and nothing else.

I was noticing some issues on FF4, but those issues seem to have disappeared.

Even with the changes, I find that site just so hard work. Maybe Im stuck in a rut, but I like my forums to be, well, like forums.

I mainly look at the "Activity" section on the bottom, and find it very annoying that it does not automatically expand on each page load.

I specifically pointed this out to Paul, and his response was:

"We looked at this and the decision was made based on the following: Alot of feedback that most people know where they want to go and just want the forum list and the fact that expanding BOTH, even if we reduced the length of "activity" would make for a very, long page by default."

Basically, the rest of the community complained about it, so Microsoft fixed it. You can't make everyone happy, although an option in my user preferences would be nice. I'm not one to browse every single forum and sub-forum. Give me one big list of recent activity and I'll go from there.
