Comcast Charges

On my Comcast bill I see a charge for two "Additional Outlet Service - HS Converted Promotion" @ $9.95 each.

I'm also getting charged $1.00 for two Cablecards.

And a discount of $5.00 for customer owned equipment.

These are for my 2 ETH's.

Is everyone being charged like this?

It seems a bit excessive to me.

The Comcast rep was totally unhelpful. He said that Tivo owners are likewise charged.

I feel dirty after talking to him.

That sounds about right.

The only way to negotiate with those people is to shut off your service for a couple days. They will offer you the $100 special again.

Yeah, Comcast makes you pay a penalty for not using their cable box. Why this is still legal is a mystery...

Any other equipment? My understanding is the first box OR card is included... each additional one has the 9.95 fee then they give you the bring your own equipment discount. Some without triple play will also get an HD fee of around $10. I believe some had seen this fee per device while others have seen it per account.

I used to get that $9.95 charge when I had a Comcast box in addition to my CableCards. Then, when I returned the box, it went away.

That's funny. Since I'm retired and my wife still works, i think I'd get bored pretty quickly :D

it looks like my egregious charges are in line.

Where's the FCC when you need them.

2x ETH?

Depending on what your viewing habits are, you may be able to use 6X OTA tuners and single ETH for 6X Cable tuners. That's what we have been doing, since Verizon charges $5/month for a single CableCARD, and I did not feel like paying $10/month for 2 cable cards, when half of the shows we record/watch are over the air with an antenna and in higher quality.

1x ETH, no boxes here. No $9.95 additional outlet charges...
CableCard (additional card in same device) $1.50
Customer Owned Equipment Adjustment (-$2.50)
Broadcast Tv Fee $1.00
Other Taxes/Fees $13.54
All other charges are programming/HSI.

I can verify the first card is free. I pay nothing for my one Cable Card and also get a discount for using my own modem.

Just thought I would share my experience from today. I picked up a second Comcast Xfinity cable card for my HTPC. First cable card is free with my package. I learned today the second card pricing depends on where the card is going:

1. If second card is going to the same Tivo/HTPC as the original card, charge is $1.50/month.
2. If second card is going to another Tivo/HTPC, chard is $7.50/month.

I asked for a explanation at my local Xfinity store but was only told this is the way it is structured in their system. So if you need to get a second card, tell them it is going in same system FYI.
