If you are a DirecTV customer they sent an update to their H2x series of STB's last night that has intorduced a new "Power Saving" mode that puts the box to sleep if a channel is not changed in 4 hours. It is turned on by default an seems to have no settings other than on and off.
Absolutely stupid. I woke up this morning wondering why none of my media center boxes could get video. Took 20 minutes to finally check the recievers themselves to find them powered off.
DirecTV update alert!

I don't know why you consider this stupid. You're an outlier not a normal user. DirecTV should be supporting the 99%, not the 1%. An option to toggle power saving on and off would be nice, but menu clutter is also a concern.

I consider introducing any new features that affect functionality of the box without notifying your customers to be stupid. Is the feature stupid? No. However deploying it in the off state and then informing the end user of it's existence would have been a better choice.
