WHS 2011 And Asus P8Z77-V Drivers Issues

#1

Post by blupie » Tue Jul 01, 2014 12:33 am

Just finished building a WHS 2011 with an Asus P8Z77-V using an Intel I 5 quad core processor.

The issue I am having is no driver for SM Bus Controller and Unknown in device manager.

I have installed the latest MEI V 8101263 chipset drivers for Windows 7 64 bit which I have read should work. I spoke with Asus tech support but they say they do not support WHS 2011 therefore no drivers for it and I called Intel and there recommendation was to use a operating system that Asus supports for the P8Z77-V motherboard. They were not much help.

Any Ideas or suggestions on how to fix this driver issue would be greatly appreciated.

Why such a powerful computer / updated motherboard to run whs2011? I am running mine on a celeron1037u and it works great. What is this server going to do? Just store recordings and other media? Backup? Are you going to virtualize WMC or something?

Good Point epayson85. I always get a little carried away and like to future proof my build a little. I want to run MediaBrowser3 on it and when MB3 transcodes for example to my iPad or iMac it does use up quite a bit of resources, this was the main reason. I'm sure its a bit of an overkill but sometimes the kids are watching 2 different media content that needs transcoding.

I finally solved the driver issue by going to the Intel site and downloading the drivers from there.

Thanks for your response.

Actually that isn't overkill for transcoding haha so probably a good call. How does mb3 run on whs2011?

Well epayson85, have not installed it on the server yet. I do have MB3 installed on my HTPC and it works well. I do like it. I will try it on the server and see how that goes. My HTPC/Gaming computer has an Intel i7 4770K processor with 32GB of memory and when it transcodes to my iMac it runs the processor at about 95%, however, that is the worse that I have seen. Curious to see how my servers Intel Core i5-3470 Quad-Core Processor 3.2 GHz 4 Core processor can handle that.

I am still trying to figure out Flexraid-F which I am going to use with the server. Once I figure that out I will install MB3 on the server and let you know how it went.

Yes , I know, overkill on the HTPC. My original idea was to use it for gaming too, although that has not materialized , yet, lol. Starting to see a pattern....
