Hi all,
Just a quick post to see if any of our members are willing / able to make a small donation to help cover our running costs?
I completely understand that times are hard for a lot of folks and many people are unable to offer any financial support.
Please don't feel pressured into donating...

I resolved this late yesterday by re-running TV setup.
CBS and Showtime are now showing in the guide and the scheduled recordings are back in the lineup.

My cable co recently just went all QAM. The 2x 2250s (in seperate machines) I have won't tune the channels though -through the WinTV app or through WMC (and I ran a rescan in both). WinTV will pick up the channels - but won't tune them - almost as if they're encrypted. But my TV's physical QAM...

My question is, will i be able to setup both of these in windows media center? Does it put it all on one tv guide or are they seperate?
Last post
I have this same setup. Merge the channels, and specify the 2250 as the preferred tuner for the ClearQAM channels (assume NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, etc...). This will free up the cablecard tuners for the channels that require it. It really works very seamlessly.

Each amplifier will have a different amount of attenuation in the reverse direction, but there will be at least some leakage back through the amp. There's a high probability that it will degrade your cable signal enough that you won't want to do this. Also, I'm fairly certain that the leakage will...

The Prime does not assign a tuner until requested so yes, you have three tuners to distribute any way you want (it's automatic and on demand), and at $140 shipped it is a bargain.

Both are network tuners. It shouldn't make a difference. Both do all the processing internally, and re-encrypt the copy-protected channels... thus requiring the CPU to decrypt the stream and then encrypt again with PlayReady.

Digital cable channels are all QAM, regardless of whether they are encrypted or not. I believe what you are trying to say is CableCARD tuners can tune unencrypted QAM channels as well as encrypted QAM channels. Which means that by default, you could have 8 tuners that can tune unencrypted QAM...

I know the Colossus is, strictly speaking, not a tuner, but I think I'm posting in the right place. I can post elsewhere if deemed appropriate.
I'm just looking for some feedback on those using Colossus with MC7:

I tried it. The board does a great job on picture quality and the accompanying video cables are first rate. However:
1. The IR cable that came with the board was DOA. Phoned Hauppauge and they sent a new cable with no problem.

WMC 7 - OTA channel KABC-7 suddenly gone

I have been recording over-the-air TV programs on WMC 7 without problems. All of a sudden last night, around 10 PM, I lost the signal for KABC-7, our local ABC affiliate in Los Angeles. All of the other channels seem to come in fine. I re-did the TV signal setup and re-scanned for channels, but it...

The H25's require the DECA adapters as far as I know. Thell them to swap them for the H24's.
That's right. I forgot about that. I do have that setup so I should be alright then. I think I remember reading you have to set the IPs static on them, so I will have to play around with it. I still need...

It's sad that there are so few of us that are making use of our PCs in this way. This is the reason the cable techs have no idea what they're doing.

i am upgrading a dell 4600 that has plenty of PCI slots available - but pre-dates PCI-e technology - that i want to use for internal tuner.
Infinitv only has PCI-e (i believe anyway). is there a cable card internal PCI tuner out there i can buy?
thanks in advance...

They won't work if you have FiOS.
True only if simulcrypt is implemented; it's not in all areas.

You would want a high-quality splitter rated to 1GHz. Personally, I'd recommend you get a splitter from your cable operator, if possible, rather than from Radio Shack. Odds are the one from your MSO will be higher quality.

The older SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuner had an input for each tuner. You can still get them on Ebay and Amazon usually under $100.
The newer HDHomeRun only has a single input, these are network tuners so it would need to be connect to your network.

A DVB-T tuner, regardless of which one you use, will be receiving the digital stream as broadcast, so no encoding is necessary. Encoding is only necessary when using an old analogue source.
The decoding is then done by your graphics card, not the tuner.

Nice to see this site up. I was a long-time member of legacy GB. Haven't had much need for 7MC in the last year or so as we have started using U-Verse and Mediaroom 2.0. Thinking about making switch back to Time Warner Cable (better picture quality, Wideband internet). Saw some posts in here...

FCC requirements have had all MSOs (that use TAs) push out 4-tuner firmware (and in fact, it actually supports 6 tuners). I just checked with our support staff and they told me they aren't seeing the old (two-tuner) TA firmware at all anymore, so you should be good.

I just bought a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2250. It is supposed to have a built in splitter which I assume can connect one antenna / cable to both channels. But I do not see how to configure the splitter. How do I do this?

If you look at the WinTV-HVR-2250 Quick Install guide you will see a picture that shows 2 coax connectors. Only one is for TV (the other is for radio). Connect a signal to the top coax connector on the card. The card has a built-in splitter that will pipe the signal source to the two onboard TV...

Crappy engineering (as in lots of heat). Don't count on driver updates when a new OS comes out. Also, the channel change delay is ridiculous. One of the few hardware components I've had that failed before I was done using it. Steer clear.

You are confusing terms again. There is no such thing as the QAM range . QAM and VSB are modulation schemes and have nothing to do with the channel number or frequency range a specific channel uses. Plus, since the channels are using 8VSB modulation, you should know that they aren't in the QAM...

addding and removing tuners means your back to square one. Using the full guidetool backup of your linup helps a small bit but really, its a PITA.
I think using DVBLOGIC to manage your tuners gives you closer to NExt pvr functionality.

You can go to info about the show, and other showings will show it on the HD channel.
Here on TWC, the HD channels are 1000 higher than their SD counterparts (so if Comedy Central is 300, Comedy Central HD is 1300)

"Edit Sources" For Multiple Channels - Tool Available?

So my Ceton card thinks it is an analog tuner (well, really the guide for my cable company thinks the analog channels are digital) so I need to de-select the four Ceton tuners from my analog channels.
I can do this in Media Center by going to Settings > TV > Guide > Edit Channels and then...
Last post
It will let you delete the Ceton sources from each channel, but won't do the channels in bulk like you want.
For each channel you want to remove sources from, click the button that lists them in the Source Channels column from the Merged Lineups tab.
The source channel management form will pop up,...

Hey there,
I was referred by Wolf from tomshardware to come to this thread, and it looks exactly like what I'll need.
He already answered a few questions for me, but my biggest question is regarding how the shows are over the network.
I am running win7, my girlfriend vista. Both have WMC...

I split the thread. I was asked by a member and after consideration I gave it it's own topic.

How is native support for HD-PVR now in Media Center?

Well prices for the HD-PVR are looking much better down here in NZ finally. I was wondering if Hauppauge media center support for the HD-PVR has got to the point where it's broadly reliable? Is there any native Media Center support for Colossus at the moment? Anyone used a HDFury2 with HD-PRV? Our...
Last post
Evolution of native support for the HDPVR has seemed to have stalled. While there was a package released as late as last month, it appears to only add support for the colossus and not improve overall functionality. The base driver is still from June of 2010 (1.5.7.0), the IR blaster functionality...

Any one know if the haupauge colussus tuner will work on Shaw in Canada? (guess says shaw kinda says it in Canada but anyways)
Last post
Absolutely, ....Yes it will.
It will work with any set top box that outputs hdmi and/or component video. All of shaw's HD boxes have both those options.
Cheers

Why would I want a tuner card over HDHomerun?

Why would I want a tuner card, like the ceton, and have it tied to one machine when I could buy the SiliconDust HDHomerun (or 2). It seems to me that I could purchase the Homerun(s) would allow me to keep them in a closet without having to use a computer as a video server, per se. I guess...

If your cable company uses SDV, then you need a TA. The HDHR prime has a usb port to connect the TA directly to it (2 for the six tuner version), so not only is the tuner in the other room or closet, but the TA is too. With the Ceton card, don't you have to use one of the usb ports on the PC? If...

Hi,
anyone know how to get the latest transponder details applied on a dreambox? I tried to research this a couple of weeks back, but didn't manage to get very far with it, so if anyone has any experience of it, that would be great!
Thanks
Tony

Does anyone know if this can be used in 7MC just as the HDHomerun does?
Last post
If I remember correctly, while it does have a PC viewing app, it is not compatible with 7MC. I think the main thing they tout is streaming to your iOS devices.

There were similar posts on the old green button, but not only did I never find a solution, but my dilemma has changed slightly.
Here we go.
I have a dual dvb-t card, and dvb-s card and a dvb-s2 card. I couldn't get WMC to pick up dvb-s2 channels since getting that card, last night I did a clean...

Thanks guys, it kind of worked.
I let it auto setup without the dvb-s card. All good. access freeview and freesat and can add the dvb-s2 channels.
went to add the other dvb-s card and it got rid of the dvb-t. added the dvb-t and it cleared the satellite.
So now, having read holidayboys post...
