I have all of this space, and didn't know what to do with it. I decided I would use the HTPC as a HTPC and begin ripping my DVD's to the PC. Now the issue is with VC-1 encoded, and I may just quit and go X264 MKV's and wait for the Echo for the bedroom. Let that Core i5 in the backroom just churn and churn.

I just got my first Blu-ray drive and some movies. What i am looking to do is rip the movies to my HDD and play them from there. The way i want to do this is similar to how my dvd rips are done.

Before buying a new video card I'd recommend just using Win7's built in decoders. So, uninstall everything except Haali, which is still needed to play mkv, and try again. You don't even need Haali if you use tsmuxer to quickly convert mkv to m2ts.

From your name I'm guessing you're in the UK. The advantage of wtv is that is stores the MHEG data from Freeview, so the red button stuff and subtitles. Converting to dvr-ms will strip all that out - will save a chunk of disk space if that matters to you.
