I went to my local office to see what modems they had to offer. I was going to buy one outright from them (or Micro Center) but they told me that they no longer sell them to customers. Worse yet, they will not let you activate a modem you purchase elsewhere. You have to lease one from them at 7...

Even for those of us whose cable companies do allow for customer owned cable modems, any major troubleshooting starts with going and getting the cableco unit and plugging it in.
I had some serious network drop-out issues a few months ago. I put up with it for awhile, then decided to get serious...

I cleared my channel maps, and let it load new ones, and the channels are in there... but I can't get them to show up in Media Center regardless if I manually run a guide data update.

Nevermind, zapit must have just added it in the past 3-4 hours, cause it finally updated when I did a guide update just now.

RG6 has a maximum bandwidth of 6 GIGABIT!
I'm not sure where you got that idea, but that is incorrect. QAM bandwidth is 38 Mbps per 6 MHz channel. A 6 Gbps limit would mean RG6 cannot go beyond about 950 MHz, which is not correct. 3 Ghz RG6 is very common, and I've even seen 4.5 GHz RG6. I'm sure...

There is no denying that BT Infinity, which Sky are reselling, is a good product. Be interesting to see if they add caps or throttling once there are serious numbers of customers, but at the moment it is sweet. Shame there is no date for it coming to my local exchange. :(

Legal or not, when a huge corporation with very deep pockets sues you, the decision often comes down to how long you can afford to fight it in court.

Absolutely stupid....

I consider introducing any new features that affect functionality of the box without notifying your customers to be stupid. Is the feature stupid? No. However deploying it in the off state and then informing the end user of it's existence would have been a better choice.
