I think your confusion is that there are two separate audio settings. One is in the Windows Sound applet in the Control Panel. The other is the Setup your speakers wizard in Media Center. You should have them both set to the same audio output, but you should set the Windows Sound settings...

I was wondering the other day... most movies nowadays are not actually 16:9, they are 1.85:1 or 2.39:1, a lot wider than normal aspect ratio of our tv screens. As a result, we end up with black bars on the top and bottom of our screens. But are these movies really 1080p? Or more accurately phrased,...

Well thats disappointing. So in reality, these movies only have maybe 500 or 600 lines of actual movie.
With your example of 2.35:1, that would be approximately 800 horizontal lines. For 1.85:1, it would be approximately 1037 horizontal lines.
Here's a curve ball as I had always thought the...

I may be wrong, but I would think that any video card that has an HDMI output would support bitstreaming DTS and Dolby Digital. You are probably thinking about the ability to bitstream HD audio. The 220 can't do the HD audio, but it should handle DTS and DD just fine.

I can definitely tell a difference on my Samsung UN55C8500. The Samsung digitally processes the incoming signal -- you really can't turn that off. The post-processed HDMI signal (all digital) is noticeably better than the post-processed component. This was true for both my DirecTV STB and my...
