I was just at my local costco, and it seemed like the flat screen tv diagonal sizes have been getting smaller. For example, a screen advertised at 46 a few years ago seems to be advertised as a 55 screen size now. I used to look at a 55 screen and think wow, thats huge, I don't need something that...

That's been my point the whole time. 50 inches is just too small for the average viewer to see any difference between 720p, 1080p, 4k/QFHD, and 8k. As you go bigger with resolution, you either have to go bigger with screen size or smaller with viewing distance. 720p is about right for the average...

Are Bluray movies 1080p?

makryger » Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:52 pm
First post
I was wondering the other day... most movies nowadays are not actually 16:9, they are 1.85:1 or 2.39:1, a lot wider than normal aspect ratio of our tv screens. As a result, we end up with black bars on the top and bottom of our screens. But are these movies really 1080p? Or more accurately phrased,...
Last post
Well thats disappointing. So in reality, these movies only have maybe 500 or 600 lines of actual movie.
With your example of 2.35:1, that would be approximately 800 horizontal lines. For 1.85:1, it would be approximately 1037 horizontal lines.
Here's a curve ball as I had always thought the...

Apple on Tuesday was granted a patent that allows users to skip unwanted audio and video broadcast segments such as commercials with on-device content like songs, podcasts or other media, possibly hinting at technology headed to the battle for the living room.

I may be wrong, but I would think that any video card that has an HDMI output would support bitstreaming DTS and Dolby Digital. You are probably thinking about the ability to bitstream HD audio. The 220 can't do the HD audio, but it should handle DTS and DD just fine.

Does an HDMI cable give better quality compared to HD component cables? Does it make a big visual difference if i use an HDMI cable or an HD component cable? Or is it basically just the convenience of the HDMI cable being one, instead of the numerous colored cables?

I can definitely tell a difference on my Samsung UN55C8500. The Samsung digitally processes the incoming signal -- you really can't turn that off. The post-processed HDMI signal (all digital) is noticeably better than the post-processed component. This was true for both my DirecTV STB and my...

The remote control that comes with the AVR does not have buttons to increase/decrease the Lipsync delay....

You must plug your laptop directly into the TV, or an AV receiver that has HDMI input. Whilst I don't know the Comcast box, I assume it cannot act as a throughput for the laptop to the TV.

Yes, I had forgotten about the Watch TV button. Other than that, the 300 (and 200) is not a typical Harmony.
Yes, you *can* reprogram FF and REW with other functions, but then you'd lose FF and REW.
